Double Gold 2010 Print

The Ayala Percussion Ensemble's Marching and Concert Percussion ensembles took gold at this years WGI World Championships in Dayton, OH. This is Ayala's first Marching Percussion gold in its 8 years in the Scholastic World division. Marching Percussion's last gold medal was in 1999 in the Scholastic A division with a 96.75. In 2002, Marching Percussion lost by .2 in the Scholastic Open division with their show Opportunities.

The Ayala Percussion Ensemble's Concert Program was started in 2003 under the direction of Caleb Rothe. By 2006 they had won their first gold medal in Scholastic World with their show Out of the Blue. They won again in 2007, setting a new world record for the highest score in WGI history with a 98.20, and with a judge giving them a perfect score in the artistry caption; a WGI first. After taking a break in 2008 for monetary reasons, they returned again in 2009, setting the record for highest score with a 98.650.

Today's achievement's marks another first in WGI History. With Ayala's Gold in both Marching and Concert Percussion, this is the first time a school has ever won two gold medals in the competition. A Double Gold!
